Bio

If you look up awesome in the dictionary there is not a picture of me…… But there should be!

I’m a 27 year old guy who does not take himself too seriously.  The most important thing in life is the experiences you have and I think this one will rank up among the best in my life thus far.  How did I get here?  Well I was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1982.  Left Cairo for the UK (London, Isle of Wight, Northern Wales) at the age of 1 1/2.  Just before my 10th birthday I moved with my Mother to Northern Virginia.  I grew up playing basketball, baseball and soccer at Flint Hill High School in Oakton, VA.  I went to Queen’s University university in Kingston, Ontario deciding to study Geological Engineering.  I used the knowledge gained there to start working for Schlumberger Wireline in Liberty, Texas.  Two and a half years later I was transfered to Aberdeen, Scotland and then after 2 years to Algeria, all with Schlumberger Wireline.

In late 2009 I decided it was time for a break, a life changing experience and a little (maybe a lot) of hard work and that is how I got to this point… hope you enjoy my travels.

Hi Ricky,
This is Sherif, your Mom’s cousin from New Jersey. Long time since we met. This sounds like a lot of fun. I will follow your news regularly. Best of luck!

Hi Rick,
I just heard about your trip from a friend of mine (Ben Martin), I also work for Schlumberger and my boyfriend and I are planning a bicycle trip that will take us through South America and Central Asia, but contrary to you, it will be no race for us as we plan “only” 18000km in 15 months. I had a look through your blog and am really impressed by what you’ve accomplished, congratulations! Did you get any support from Schlumberger, I would like to ask for sponsorship but do not know whom to ask. To read more about our project, visit our blog at http://desandesauxindes.wordpress.com
Cheers!
