John, Yes I am out of my mind.
Seb, I’ll do my best to keep it updated depending on internet connections along the way
KT, I’ll be fine I hope I can upload pictures along the way as well
Hi Rick!
Wow, what an amazing journey you are about to take…it takes a lot of bravery and determination to do what you are about to experience! This past summer I road coast to coast across Canada and must say that my 6000 km journey looks like nothing next to your 12000 km ride!
I am extremely jealous knowing you will see from top to bottom, one beautiful continent.
I also read that you will be enjoying the World Cup towards the end of your journey…I will be in South Africa at that time to see a few matches and cheer on the number one team -Brazil of course
I really look forward to hearing more about your journey… hopefully you find lot’s of internet along the way to keep us updated as much as possible
Best of luck to you!

Are you still in for EFI? Sounds like Day 2 was brutal. I’m obsessed with reading blogs of other riders and tweets. Hope that all is well and the first few days haven’t worn you out completley.
Hi Rick, I’m a friend of your mother’s from Alexandria, VA. I have been living in New Orleans for a year – wanted to change my life and find adventure. I send you all good wishes for your trip – you are courageous and I really look forward to your postings. You have my prayers and good wishes for the entire trip – I know that you will complete it in good shape, and hope that everything you have envisioned and “invited” into your life will arrive in good time – friends, visual surprises, deep experiences. Which playoffs are you interested in? I assume – soccer? Take good care, Chris
Sounds like things are going well! Hard to imagine you biking in Egypt when I Jeff and I were just skating on the Rideau Canal the other night. Brought back good memories of you, Karianne, Denise and I forcing ourselves to skate back in fourth year on a CRAZY cold day. It wasn’t so bad the other night, but most definitely colder than Egypt.
I’m enjoying reading the blog, the writing’s better than you give yourself credit for – especially with how exhausted you must be. I’m impressed not only by the trip (after limited training and all…) but that you’re essentially doing it by yourself with strangers supporting you. I hope you’re making new friends, continue taking good care of yourself and that knee, and taking lots of pics and to post after the trip.
Hope the crossing into Sudan went well and that you reconnected to your birth country, that the reconnection was not spoiled by the stone-throwing boy. Also, hope the the knee is back to normal. Keep up the good work; I’m very proud of you.
I am not sure wether you remember me, I am frederick Lugassy, the son of Renee Lugassy, we played basketball at GWU as kids.
Your mother is staying with us in Paris at the moment, and she updated us on your tour/trip. I want to congratulate you for participating in such an event and I wish you all the best in life.
It seems that there has been a lifestyle change this 2010. How will you ever go back to it?! Apparently, you are in very good physical condition. Are there imbibes along the way? Need to go back and read more! Stay well. Thinking about you, Ricky… and Mona.
It should be a doddle as it’s all downhill from Egypt to South Africa. Well that’s what it looks like on the globe and map.
I wouldn’t want to be in your cycling shoes sunshine as I wouldn’t have made it past the great pyramid!!!!
Enjoy the rest of the experience as it will be great to tell the grand-children.
May the pedal force be with you and the wind behind you…..
Awesome trip. Saw your mom last night at the Terry’s. I love it. Living life is a great thing. Can’t wait to see the pictures as you ride by Kilimanjaro.
Hello Ricky,
I think it’s a really cool thing you are doing. What an adventure! Keep up your spirits and make the best of new opportunities. All the best to you. I look forward to following your progress. Mr. Johnson
Are you staying in as good of shape? How much did your bike cost? Where are you settling now? Have been thinking about you throughout. Goodness. How is Africa doing from your bike vantage point? And now your mother is off! What is happening with her townhouse? Good for Mona! Byron is studying abroad in Argentina and will return home in August after a stop off in Peru before returning for his senior year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Jackie is home life guarding this summer and will go back for her second year to Radford University down near Virginia Tech. I am teaching three more years and retiring to help Byron with his engineering business. More than anything, want to know where you are settling now. Please be in touch. Thinking about you! Jan
Are you out your damn mind?!?!
